Dodoni & Ioannina: What to See & Do
Start your day by visiting the Ancient Theatre of Dodoni, the largest and best preserved Ancient Greek Theatre! They say it is the oldest oracle in Greece. During summer, all kinds of plays do take place in this Theatre so make sure you look up the programme before visiting.
Continue your day by visiting the city of Ioannina and its castle. Walk around the Castle of Ioannina and travel back in time. The castle houses a recently made Silversmithing Museum, Mosques from the Muslim influence (the Aslan Pasha Mosque & the Fethiye Mosque), a Synagogue from the Jewish influence (which is not open, unless you have made an appointment beforehand) as well as Christian Places of Worship. If time permits worth visiting is the Archaeological Museum which is in the heart of the city.
Don’t forget to take a boat cruise to Ioannina’s island, a natural monument, and visit the Ali Pasha Museum, where they say he was killed! On your way make sure you stop to taste a local sweet sticky delicacy.
Suggested taverns for lunch is Seirios and for dinner Stoa Louli, where you can listen to some Greek music if lucky after 22:00. If summer and evening time for coffee or dinner a suggested visit would also be the Nautical Club of Ioannina Park.
